چکیده

In recent years, there has been significant interest in the area of automatically recognizing activities occurring in a camera’s field of view and detecting abnormalities. The practical applications of such a system could include airport tarmac monitoring, or monitoring of activities in secure installations, to name a few. The difficulty of the problem is compounded by several factors: detection of primitive actions in spite of changes in illumination, occlusions and noise; complex multiagent interaction; mapping of higher-level activities to lower-level primitive actions; variations in which the same semantic activity can be performed. In this chapter, we develop a theory of semantic activity analysis that addresses each of these issues in an integrated manner. Specifically, we discuss ontological representations of knowledge of a domain, integration of domain knowledge and statistical models for achieving semantic mappings, definition of logical languages to describe activities, and design of frameworks which integrate all the above aspects in a coherent way, thus laying the foundations of effective Semantic Video Content Analysis systems.

User-aware Video Coding Based on Semantic Video Understanding and Enhancing

Traditional video coding is devoted to represent the video data compactly by dealing with low-level features (e.g., color, motion, texture, etc.) of the video. However, with the insatiable demand of Internet and increased use of multimedia, the bit-rate control issues are more and more important. In order to achieve more efficient representation for coping with diverse network or devices, many ...

Video Semantic Content Analysis Framework Based on Ontology Combined MPEG-7

The rapid increase in the available amount of video data is creating a growing demand for efficient methods for understanding and managing it at the semantic level. New multimedia standard, MPEG-7, provides the rich functionalities to enable the generation of audiovisual descriptions and is expressed solely in XML Schema which provides little support for expressing semantic knowledge. In this p...

Recent Advances in Video Content Analysis: From Visual Features to Semantic Video Segments

This paper addresses the problem of automatically partitioning a video into semantic segments using visual low-level features only. Semantic segments may be understood as building content blocks of a video with a clear sequential content structure. Examples are reports in a news program, episodes in a movie, scenes of a situation comedy or topic segments of a documentary. In some video genres l...

Improved Video Content Indexing by Multiple Latent Semantic Analysis

Low-level features are now becoming insufficient to build efficient content-based retrieval systems. Users are not interested any longer in retrieving visually similar content, but they expect retrieval systems to also find documents with similar semantic content. Bridging the gap between low-level features and semantic content is a challenging task necessary for future retrieval systems. Laten...

Recent Advances in Content-Based Video Analysis

In this paper, we present major issues in video parsing, abstraction, retrieval and semantic analysis. We discuss the success, the difficulties and the expectations in these areas. In addition, we identify important opened problems that can lead to more sophisticated ways of video content analysis. For video parsing, we discuss topics in video partitioning, motion characterization and object se...

A Fuzzy Ontology Based Automatic Video Content Retrieval

Recent advances in digital video analysis and extraction have made video more accessible than ever. The representation and recognition of events in a video is important for a number of tasks such as video surveillance, video browsing and content based video indexing. Rawdata and low-level features alone are not sufficient to fulfill the user’s needs; that is, a deeper understanding of the conte...
